Howdy!

I'm Liam. I'm a platform architect based in London, which means I spend most of my time thinking about how organisations build and run cloud data platforms — and why the reality never quite matches the slide deck.

I've worked in data consultancy for the better part of a decade, mostly in the Databricks and Azure ecosystem. I did a Masters in Computer Science at the University of Lincoln, where I learned just enough to be dangerous and not quite enough to be elegant. Unfortunately the Developing for Windows Mobile module never went anywhere, but besides that I think the balance has worked wonders for me.

This is where I write about the things I keep coming back to: the gap between aspiration and reality in platform engineering, why your org chart matters more than your architecture, and what happens when you try to build something that outlasts the team that built it. I like writing through a lens — so far it's been football, but films are next.

I'm also, for my sins, a Chelsea fan.

If you want to get in touch, I'm on LinkedIn.
